Overview
This video clearly demonstrates how to use the drawing management (Helios) in combination with HiCAD. The special feature of this video is that it offers an in-depth explanation of the construction sections as well as other manufacturing sections in order to convey targeted work in a particularly clear manner.
Create Project
In this video I show how to use the module "Drawing management”Creates a new project.
During the process, the following mask appears, which can be customized as desired using the mask editor. You can adjust it to your individual requirements and font headers.
These masks were adapted by me and do not look like the masks in the standard delivery.
Create drawing
This video explains how to create a new construction in HELiOS.
The basic step to create a new design in HELiOS starts with creating an article. Interestingly, this article is created via HiCAD. This approach allows seamless integration between the two applications and greatly facilitates the design process.
After you have created an article in the article master, a document, be it a drawing or a model, is assigned to this article master. In this document, you enter all the relevant information that is important for the design. This information can then be automatically transferred to the title block, both from the document master and from the article master. This greatly simplifies documentation and the use of the data.
Generate manufacturing drawings
The automatic manufacturing drawing generation command function is extremely useful, as it places each part on a plan. This is undoubtedly an efficient way to create drawings. As you mentioned, there is also the option to put multiple parts on one plan, which is an interesting approach. This seems to be a versatile and informative video that introduces different methods for creating drawings in HiCAD and HELiOS.
In my view, this method of creating drawings offers a considerable advantage. By using drawing numbers, one immediately receives information about in which assembly the respective part is installed. In addition, the drawing number provides information about which project this part is used in, as well as in which construction stage and production stage it is located.
However, it is important to emphasize that this is only one of many ways in which this configuration can be done.
You are absolutely right. The ability to customize these settings to fit the way you work in your company is extremely valuable. Each way of working has its advantages and disadvantages, and it's important to choose the one that best fits your needs and goals. In your case, the customized settings offer numerous advantages. And regarding the disadvantage of having to print out many schedules, there are certainly alternative solutions that can be considered to overcome this challenge.
Update manufacturing drawings
It is great to know that the same command can also be used to update the manufacturing drawings of already created shop drawings. The fact that missing drawings can be created automatically is certainly a time-saving and efficient way to optimize the work process.
Share drawings
The release function allows you to release individual parts or assemblies for manufacturing or production. This is a basic requirement for assigning an index to drawings or parts.
modification
The "Change" command allows you to release individual parts or assemblies for editing again. It is important to note that this automatically assigns a new index.
It is extremely helpful to know that these index texts are automatically output in the title block. This gives you the option of tracking the current status of each part or assembly at any time. This facilitates documentation and provides a clear overview of the processing status.
The combination of HiCAD and HELiOS not only makes it possible to track the current status of individual parts and assemblies, but also saves all previous statuses. This enables seamless tracking of every part, even after the fact. This is invaluable when it comes to traceability and change management.
Manage general documents
The term "General documents" refers to the PDFs of release plans or view drawings. This video shows how you can also manage and update these documents using Drawing Management. This is an important feature to ensure that all documents are up to date.
The settings for these functions can be found in the configuration. Here you can adjust the corresponding options and define how the management of the general documents should be performed.
Generate plan list
Here it is described how to create a plan list in HELiOS. The configuration of this list, as well as that of other BOM exports in Excel, is necessary. Note that this particular list is not included in the standard delivery of HiCAD and HELiOS.
Complete attribute values in HELiOS
The General Documents video explains how the management of these documents works. In particular, it highlights an area where the default list for the document type is displayed. In your case, this list is already occupied with predefined attributes. The video shows how you can define this assignment in advance.
Manage multiple sheets
This video shows how to deal with cases where it is not possible to get all views and sections on one sheet or plan. It explains how to work with any number of sheets and plans in combination with HELiOS to overcome this problem.
Check, release and index models
As of HiCAD 2023, it is possible to release models created during modeling, as well as release plans and the like. This is certainly a useful feature to streamline the release process and ensure that all relevant information is available.
Output PDF data in black and white
Derive drawings ( copy )
The "Derive" function with the "Active Assembly" option is used when workshop drawings have already been created for an assembly and these are to be duplicated. However, it is important to note that this requires a different way of working. First, the assemblies must be designed and the drawings created. Then the duplicates are derived and, if necessary, adjusted. This process enables the efficient creation of variants based on existing documents.
Derive drawings ( copy ) from other projects
The function "Derive Helios item masters - selection via HELiOS" is designed to copy assemblies that have already been used in another project and for which shop drawings have been created, into a new project. With this function, an assembly can be copied into the existing project and the drawing already created in the previous project is also copied. This facilitates the reuse of assemblies and the associated documents in different projects.
It is important to note that you can use parameterized elements, as you demonstrate in this video. An example of this is your panel, which can be used as both a glass panel and a sheet metal panel. Creating the drawings in the desired shape beforehand allows you to use variants in new projects. When you copy these variants into a new project and create the drawings, they are automatically adjusted according to the parameters you set. This greatly facilitates the customization and reuse of elements.
